Flaxseed is one of the oldest cultivated crops known to humanity. Flax (binomial name: Linum usitatissimum) is one – year or two – year erect plant with a height of 30 – 100 centimeters. It has a short spindle root.

The mature fruit resembles a pouch or a round dry capsule with 8 – 10 brown or golden seeds which should be used after well dried. Only the fully mature and dry seed contains enough mucus and healing ingredients.

Healing properties

Healing properties of flaxseeds are due to three crucial ingredients:

*Omega – 3 fatty acids; flaxseeds contain double the amount of the fatty acids in the fish oil (they strengthen the immune system and improve great number of biochemical processes in the organism). Except with Omega 3, it contains a lot of Omega 6 (linoleic acid) and Omega 9 (oleic acid).
